Religion in Uruguay

Christianity is the largest religion in Uruguay and 42.4% of the population follows Christianity but 53% of its population is irreligious. Among Christians in Uruguay, Catholics have the most adherents followed by Protestants. 32.4% of the population followed Roman Catholicism; 8.1% Evangelical Protestantism; 0.3% Adventist, 0.8% Jehovah’s Witnesses, and 0.4% Mormon.

Other Non-Christian-based faiths population is at 3.9%. Non-Christian Faith includes African Cults, Jewish, and other minority religions. 

Irreligious people account for 53% of the population (Agnostic 1.0%; Atheist 8.8%; Other 0.5%; None 39.6% )

Uruguay Ethinic Composition

The majority of Uruguayans are of European descent, with their ancestors having immigrated from Spain, Italy, France, and Britain. African descendants make up 4.60% of the population, while indigenous peoples account for 2% of the population. Mestizos, who are of mixed European and Indian ancestry, make up less than one-tenth of the population. Additionally, there is a small population of East Asians in the country.
