Buddhism is the most widely practiced religion in Singapore: 31% of the resident population declared themselves Buddhist. Next comes Christianity (18.9%), followed by Islam (15.6%), Taoism (8.8%), and Hinduism (5.0%).
Most Buddhists in Singapore are Chinese and are of the Mahayana tradition. Thailand’s Theravada Buddhism has seen growing popularity among the populace (not only the Chinese) during the past decade. About 20% of the population did not have a religious affiliation or follow any religion.
