Norway Population and Religion Percentage

Norway, officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a Nordic country in Northern Europe whose mainland territory comprises the western and northernmost portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula. The remote Arctic island of Jan Mayen and the archipelago of Svalbard also form part of Norway. 

According to Statistics Norway, as of the 4th quarter of 2024, Norway’s population stands at 5,594,340. The country experienced a population growth of 9,296 during this period, driven mainly by net migration of 8,518 and a natural increase (births minus deaths) of 502. There were 12,082 births and 11,580 deaths recorded. Immigration totaled 15,287, while 6,769 people emigrated from Norway.

Religion in Norway

Christianity is the main religion in Norway and 76% of the population adheres to it. Amon Christians, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Norway is the largest and its followed by 68.68% of the population. The Catholic Church is the next largest Christian church at 3.1%. The rest of the denominations have a small percentage.

Non-Christian faiths account for 6%, and the remaining 18.3% are classified as unaffiliated, which can mean agnostic, atheist, or “nothing in particular.”

Islam is the second largest religion and its followed by 3.4% of the population. Other smaller faiths include Hinduism, Buddhism, and Baháʼí Faith.
