Nepal is a secular country and Hinduism is the largest religion in Nepal. Hinduism is followed by 81.3% of the population, followed by Buddhism (9%); the remaining were Islam (4.4%), Kirant (3.1%), Christianity (1.4%), and Prakriti or nature worship (0.5%).
By percentage of the population, Nepal has the largest population of Hindus in the world and the second-largest number of Hindus in the world after India. Among the ethnic groups in Nepal, those most influenced by Hinduism are the Bahun, Chhetri, Madheshi, Newari, and Thakuri people.
