Nashik is an ancient city located in the Indian state of  Maharashtra. Nashik is the fourth largest city in Maharashtra in terms of population after Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur.  Situated on the banks of the river Godavari, Nasik is well known for being one of the Hindu pilgrimage sites, that of Kumbh Mela which is held every 12 years.  It’s also known as the “Wine Capital of India” as half of India’s vineyards and wineries are located in Nashik.

As per Census 2011, Nashik has a population growth rate of 37.95% during 2001-2011.  It’s expected to have a population growth rate of 20% during 2011-2021.

At the start of the 20th century, the Nashik population was just 21 thousand and it don’t show any major growth until the Independence of India.  1950 onwards Nashik saw high population growth and from 1 lakh population in the Year 1950 Its reached 1 million in the Year 2000 and 1.8 million in 2021

The initial provisional data released by Census India 2011, shows that the density of Nashik for 2011 is 5625 people per sq. km. Nashik city administers area is 264.2  sq. km.

LITERACY RATE

The average literacy rate of Nashik City in 2011 was 89.85 %. If things are looked at gender-wise, male and female literacy was 93.40% and 85.92% respectively. The total literate in Nashik city was 11,78,446 of which 6,43,543 are males while 5,43,903 are females.

SEX RATIO

With regards to the Sex Ratio in Nashik, it stood at 899 per 1000 males. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per the latest reports of the Census 2011 Directorate. In the 2011 census, the child sex ratio is 865 girls per 1000 boys

CHILD POPULATION

In census enumeration, data regarding children under 0-6 years of age were also collected. There were a total of 1,77,476 children under the age of 0-6 years. Nashik district is the third largest district in Maharashtra state in terms of population and occupies an area of 15,582 square kilometers in the north Maharashtra region. As per Census 2011, Nashik District population in 2011  was 61,07,187  (61 Lakh) of which 3,157,186 are males and 2,950,001 are females. The literacy rate is 82.31% % & Male-Female Sex ratio is 934. 

The estimated population of Nashik District in 2024 is 70 lakh.
