As per provisional reports of Census India, the population of Madurai City in 2011 is 10,17,865 (10,17 Lakhs)  of which the male population is 5,09,302  and the female population is 5,08,563

The initial provisional data released by census India 2011, shows that the density of Madurai for 2011 is 19589 people per sq. km. Madurai city administers an area is 52 sq. km

LITERACY RATE

The average literacy rate of Madurai   City in 2011 was  90.91 %. If things are looked out at gender-wise, male and female literacy was  94.77 % and  87.06 %. respectively. The total literate in Madurai city was 834,104  of which 433,860  are males while 400,244 are females.

SEX RATIO

With regard to the Sex Ratio in Madurai, it stood at 999  per 1000 males. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per the latest reports of the Census 2011 Directorate. In the 2011 census, the child sex ratio is 949  girls per 1000 boys

CHILD POPULATION
