Latvia Population 2025

Latvia, officially known as the Republic of Latvia, is a country located in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. As of January 1, 2021, Latvia’s population was 1,893,223, with a population density of 30 people per km². The country has an aging population, with 22.1% aged 65+ and a median age of 42.8 years.

Over the past decade, Latvia experienced a 20% population decline, largely due to net migration losses of 97,000 people. Ethnically, Latvians make up 62.7%, followed by Russians (24.5%), Belarusians (3.1%), Ukrainians (2.2%), and Poles (2.0%).

According to the UN World Population Prospects report, the population of Latvia in 2025 is projected to be 1,853,559 (1.85 million or 18.5 lakh).

Christianity is the majority religion in Latvia and Its followed by 65% of the population. Among Christians, Lutheranism (Protestant denomination) with 36% adherents is the most followed. Next comes the Roman Catholics at  17%, Eastern Orthodoxy at 9%, and 2% belonged to smaller Christian denominations.

A further 35%  are not affiliated with any religion or follow any Religion and 1% belong to other religions.
