Kyrgyzstan, officially the Kyrgyz Republic, also known as Kirghizia (in Russian), is a landlocked country in Central Asia. Kyrgyzstan is bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the west, Tajikistan to the south, and China to the east and southeast.

According to the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic As of January 1, 2023, Kyrgyzstan’s total resident population is approximately 7,161,900. and As per the UN World Population Prospects report,  the estimated population of  Kyrgyzstan in 2025 is 7,295,034 (7.3 Million)

Religion in Kyrgyzstan

Islam is The majority religion in Kyrgyzstan and its practiced by 89.4% of the population. Most are adherents of Sunni Islam, with a minority being Shia.

Christianity is the second largest religion followed by an estimated 10% of the population and is mostly Russian Orthodox Church. Other religions are at just 1% of the population including Jews, Buddhism, and Baháʼí.

Ethinic Group

Kyrgyz, a Turkic people, are the largest ethnic group in the country, comprising 74.1% of the population. Russians (5.0%) are predominantly located in the northern region, while Uzbeks (14.8%) reside in the south. Other ethnic groups include Dungans (1.1%), Uyghurs (0.9%), Tajiks (0.9%), Kazakhs (0.6%), and Ukrainians (0.1%), along with several other smaller ethnicities. Overall, the country has over 80 ethnic groups residing within its borders.
