As per Census 2011, Kanpur city has a population growth rate of 8.39% during 2001-2011. It’s expected to have a population growth rate of around 10% during 2011-2021.

At the start of the 20th century, Kanpur’s population was 2 lakh & it took 40 years to double that. As per provisional reports of Census India, the population of Kanpur City in 2011 is 2,765,348 (27.65 Lakh) of which the male population is 1,489,062 and the female population is 1,276,286

The initial provisional data released by census India 2011, shows that the density of Kanpur for 2011 is 10358  people per sq. km. Kanpur city administers area is 260 sq. km & metro area is 267 sq km

LITERACY RATE

The average literacy rate of Kanpur City in 2011 was 82.42%. If things are looked out at gender-wise, male and female literacy was 84.50% and 80.00% respectively. The total literate in Kanpur city was 2,059,105 of which 1,136,966 are males while 922,139 are females.

SEX RATIO

With regards to the Sex Ratio in Kanpur, it stood at 857 per 1000 males. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per the latest reports of the Census 2011 Directorate. In the 2011 census, the child sex ratio is 861 girls per 1000 boys

CHILD POPULATION

Kanpur Nagar District Population

Kanpur District was divided into two districts, namely Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat in the year 1977. The two were reunited again in 1979 and again separated in 1981. Kanpur Nagar district (Urban Kanpur District) is one of the districts of the Uttar Pradesh state of India. It covers an area of 10,863 sq. km. As per the census 2011, Kanpur Nagar District’s population is 4,581,268  (45.81 Lakhs).
