Hyderabad City is the capital of the State of Telangana in India. From 1956 to 2014 Hyderabad was the capital of Andhra Pradesh state, but, with the creation of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh in 2014, it was redesignated as the capital of both states. It’s the fourth-most populous city in India and Hyderabad Metropolitan area is the sixth-most populous metropolitan area in India. 

As per the provisional data of the 2011 census, Hyderabad had a population of 6,731,790 (67.31 Lakh) and its estimated population in 2024 is 82 lakh.

Hyderabad Metropolitan Region is the metropolitan area covered by Hyderabad City. Hyderabad Urban Allogmeration is spread over the districts of Hyderabad District, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, Medak, Siddipet, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri. 

As per the provisional data of the 2011 census, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region had a population of 76,74,689 (76.64 Lakh) and the estimated population of Hyderabad Metropolitan Region in 2024 is 92 lakh.

Hinduism is the majority religion in Hyderabad city with 64.93 % followers. Islam is the second most popular religion in the city of Hyderabad with approximately 30.13 % following it. Next comes Christianity at 2.75 %, Jainism at 0.29 %, Sikhism at 0.25 %, and Buddhism at 0.04 %.

Census 2011 Details

As per provisional reports of Census India, the population of Hyderabad City in 2011 was 67,31,790 ( 67.31 Lakhs) of which the male population was 34,42,696 and the female population was 32,89,094

DENSITY

The initial provisional data released by Census India 2011, shows that the density of Hyderabad for 2011 is 10477 people per sq. km. Hyderabad city administers area is 625 sq. km

LITERACY RATE

The average literacy rate of Hyderabad City in 2011 was 83.26%. If things are looked at gender-wise, male and female literacy was 87.31% and 79.04% respectively. 

SEX RATIO

With regards to the Sex Ratio in Hyderabad, it stood at 955 per 1000 males. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per the latest reports of the Census 2011 Directorate. In the 2011 census, the child sex ratio is 922 girls per 1000 boys

CHILD POPULATION

In census enumeration, data regarding children under 0-6 age were also collected. There were a total of 7,99,397 children under the age of 0-6 years. Of a total 4,16,016 are boys while 3,83,381 are girls. The child Sex Ratio as per the census 2011 was 922. In 2011, Children under 0-6 formed 11.88% of the total population of Hyderabad City
