Howrah (also spelled as Haora) is a metropolitan city within the Howrah district, in the Indian state of West Bengal.  The city is located on the western bank of the Hooghly River and It is a part of the area covered by the Kolkata Metropolitan Region.

As per provisional reports of Census India, the population of Howrah City in 2011 was 1,077,075 (10.77 Lakh) of which the male population was 5,61,220 and the female population was 5,15,855

DENSITY

The initial provisional data released by Census India 2011, shows that the density of Howrah for 2011 is 20817 people per sq. km. Howrah city administers area is 52 sq. km

LITERACY RATE

The average literacy rate of Howrah City in 2011 was 88.71 %. If things are looked at gender-wise, male and female literacy was 91.06% and 86.15%. respectively. Total literate in Howrah city was 8,74,891 of which 462,420 are males while 4,06,465 are females.

SEX RATIO

With regards to the Sex Ratio in Howrah, it stood at 919 per 1000 males. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per the latest reports of the Census 2011 Directorate. In the 2011 census, the child sex ratio is 932 girls per 1000 boys

CHILD POPULATION
