Christianity is the largest religion in Ghana, followed by 71.2% of the population. As per the Census reports, the largest denominations by adherents in 2021 are Protestant Churches with 46.7% of the population following its various branches. Next comes the Catholics with 13.1% of the population and other Christians with 11.4%.
Islam is the second largest religion, followed by 17.6% of the population. Half of the Muslims in Ghana are followers of Sunni Islam, while approximately 16% belong to the Ahmadiyya movement and around 8% identify with Shia Islam, while the remainder is non-denominational Muslims.
Traditional faiths account for 6.2%, and the remaining 4.1% are classified as unaffiliated, which can mean agnostic, atheist, or “nothing in particular.”
