El Salvador, officially the Republic of El Salvador, is a country in Central America. According to the Banco Central de Reserva de El Salvador, the country’s population in 2024 is 6,029,976 people. Women comprise 52.8% of the population, while men comprise 47.2%. Regarding ethnic identity, 1.2% of the population self-identifies as Indigenous, and 0.4% as Afro-descendant. Urbanization remains significant, with 26.4% of the population residing in San Salvador, making it the most densely populated area in the country.

As per the UN World Population Prospects report, the estimated population of  El Salvador in 2025 is 6.2 million.

Religion in El Salvador

El Salvador is a Christian-majority Nation and 84% of the population adheres to Chrisanity. Roman Catholics (45%) and Protestants (37%) are the two main denominations. Other religions are in a very small percentage and 15% of the population is Unaffiliated or doesn’t follow any religion.

El Salvador Ethinic population

The majority of the population in El Salvador are Mestizos, which are people of mixed indigenous and European ancestry, comprising almost 90% of the population. The remaining population is made up of various groups such as the indigenous peoples like the Izalco and Pancho from the village of Panchimalco, people of European ancestry, and other smaller groups.
