Darbhanga City and District Population

Darbhanga is the fifth largest city in Bihar and is one of the oldest cities in India. It serves as the headquarters of the Darbhanga district and the Darbhanga division. It is held that the name Darbhanga has been derived from Dwar Banga or Dari – Banga, meaning the ‘door of Bengal’. It is popularly known as the “Cultural Capital of Bihar” and the “Heart of Mithilaanchal”.

As per provisional reports of Census India, the population of  Darbhanga City in 2011 was 294,116 (2.95 Lakhs) of which the male population was 154,970 and the female population was 139,146

The initial provisional data released by Census India 2011, shows that the density of Darbhanga for 2011 is 15480 people per sq. km. Darbhanga city administers area is 19 sq. km

LITERACY RATE

The average literacy rate of Darbhanga City in 2011 was 80.88 %. If things are looked at gender-wise, male and female literacy was 86.43 % and 74.68%. respectively. The total literate in Darbhanga city was 205,203 of which 115,620 are males while 89,583 are females.
