Varanasi Police is part of the Uttar Pradesh Police. It’s a popular destination for International & national tourists & the 6th most populated city in UP, so maintaining Law and order is a very challenging & and important task. Earlier Varanasi district comes under the Varanasi Police Zone and Varanasi Police Range. On 26 March 2021, the Police commissioner system was implemented in Varanasi City.
In the commissionerate system, the Commissioner of Police (CP) in the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADG) heads the district. Varanasi police, now headed by a Commissioner of Police and is assisted by 2 Addl. Commissioners of Police in the rank of DIG, one looks after Law and order while the other looks into Crime and Headquarters. Under them, there is a team of IPS and PPS officers who are posted as DCPs and ACPs.
Varanasi police is divided into different circles for City, rural, crime, traffic & protocol. Police Stations in Varanasi come under the ACPs. Varanasi Nagar has five circles i.e Kotwali, Bhelpur, Cant, Chetganj & Dashashwamedh. Varanasi City has 16 + Law & Order Police Stations. 1o Police stations of Varanasi district are now under Varanasi Rural & Badagaon, Pindara & Sadar Circels are now in Varanasi Rural.
