Pakistani Population in South Africa 2022

Pakistan has the 6th largest diaspora in the world, with 8-10 million people living or settled outside Pakistan. As per the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and HRD report 2017, an estimated 8.8 million Pakistanis live abroad or outside Pakistan.

South Africa is the country with the fifth-largest Overseas Pakistani population. As per the estimates, the Pakistani Population in South Africa in 2022 is 250,000 (2.5 lakh)

Pakistanis make up less than 1% of the South African population & approx population of  Pakistanis in South Africa as of 2022 is 2.5 Lakhs. Pakistani South Africans descend from laborers and migrants who arrived from British India during the late 1800s and early 1900s.  The majority of them live in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, and Grahamstown.

The influx of people arriving from Pakistan has increased significantly in the last 10 years and most South African Pakistanis follow Islam.
