Shillong is a hill station in the northeastern part of India and the capital of Meghalaya. Shillong with a population close to 1.5 lakhs is the 6th most populous city in North-East India. It is also known as Scotland of the East and Earlier Shillong is the capital of undivided Assam until the creation of the new state of Meghalaya on 21 January 1972. After this Shillong became the capital of Meghalaya, and Assam moved its capital to Dispur in Guwahati.

The initial provisional data released by census India 2011, shows that the density of Shillong for 2011 is 2225 people per sq. km. Shillong city administers an area is 64.36 sq. km
LITERACY RATE
The average literacy rate of Shillong City in 2011 was 92.81 %. If things are looked out at gender-wise, male and female literacy was 94.80 % and 90.92% respectively. The total literate in Shillong city was 119,642 of which 59,479 are males while 60,163 are females.
SEX RATIO
With regards to the Sex Ratio in Shillong, it stood at 1042 per 1000 males. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per the latest reports of the Census 2011 Directorate. In the 2011 census, the child sex ratio is 936 girls per 1000 boys
CHILD POPULATION
