Its also known as the cultural capital of Karnataka & Lies in the foothills of the Chamundi Hills about 145.2 km towards the southwest of Bangalore. It served as the capital city of the Kingdom of Mysore for nearly six centuries from 1399 until 1956. It is the third most populated city in Karnataka after Mysore & Hubli-Dharwad.

LITERACY RATE

The average literacy rate of Mysore City in 2011 was 87.67 %. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy was 90.61% and  84.75 %. respectively. Total literate in Mysore city was 7,08,130 of which  3,65,233  are males while 3,42,897  are females.
