Egg production in India

India is the third-largest producer of eggs globally. The country increased its production of eggs from 78.48 billion in 2014-15 to 122.11 billion in 2020-21. The annual growth rate of egg production was 4.99 percent during 2014-15, thereafter, there has been a significant improvement in egg production with 10.19 percent growth registered in 2019-20* over the previous year.

The per capita availability of eggs was 92 eggs per annum in 22020-21. Poultry production in India has taken a quantum leap in the last four decades, emerging from the use of unscientific farming practices to commercial production systems with state-of-the-art technological interventions. 

Statewise Egg Production

Egg production has been increasing at a rate of 8%-10% for the past two decades. Andhra Pradesh  (20.45%) and Tamil Nadu (16.49%) are the top egg producers in the country. Next comes Telangana (12.98%), West Bengal (8.60%), and Karnataka (6.24%).
